Essential Features

Tripods need to be sturdy, stable and relatively lightweight. Sea fishing from the shore can often mean fishing in the harshest conditions, whether it’s rough ground from uneven terrain or windy conditions with the potential of your rods been blown over. Thankfully top end beach rests are packed with features to overcome difficult conditions and generally make your fishing experience easier.

Anti-corrosion metal or paint

Buying sea fishing tackle is always a considered investment and looking for value for money is always a consideration. As beach tripods are predominantly metal there is a essential requirement to be of an anti-rust material to prolong the life of the product as it’s used in or near saltwater. Most sea tripods are made from aluminium, painted or other non-corrosive materials.

Strength

Overall toughness is the main feature of higher end sea tripods due to harsh environment’s they can be used. Constant exposure to saltwater coupled with hard difficult terrain means strength and durability of your sea tripod is paramount. The main shaft of tripods can often be constructed of angled metal rather than tubular to offer added strength!

Weight

Often you’ll find yourself traversing long walks to remote marks whilst sea fishing from the shore. Along with beachcasters and other equipment the carried weight can add-up so a relatively lightweight but strong frame is key.

Adjustable or telescopic legs

These are not a feature on all tripods but are absolutely essential on uneven rough ground such as rocky shores. Not essential if you are using the tripod from a flat peer or beach! If in doubt buy one with adjustable legs as you never know when you will need to accommodate an uneven surface! This feature can also reduce the overall transport length of your beach rest.

Spiked Feet

Can be really useful when fishing from a sandy beach or muddy shore line. Being able to dig the legs of your tripod into the ground offers a huge benefit of stability.

Bucket Hook

A feature often overlooked but can be a great option to keep essential items like weights close to hand right under your rods. The added advantage here is that extra weight pulling down on the tripod adds further stability.

Length

Not all sea fishing tripods are the same length. Shorter ones are more compact which can be useful when fishing from a high shoreline and are easier to transport. Longer beach rests will allow you to elevate your rods above breaking waves – ideal for fishing clean ground beach marks!

Trace Clip

Again this is a nice little addon feature that brings some convenience to rigging up your rod or baiting up hooks. These aren’t on all tripods but can also be bought seperately – just check with manufactures or our staff for compatibility.

Footrest

A nice little feature that helps you penetrate the ground with your tripod legs – this is a nice to have feature but definitely not essential!

Leg clips

Surprisingly useful for transporting your beach rest as the legs can be clipped to the main shaft and moved as one unit rather than the legs moving as separate parts.

Rod cups

Are good for anglers that want to elevate their rods or keep the rods off the ground.

Leg Lock/Stabilising Arms

Only available on higher specification rod rests but significantly improve the overall stability of the rest.
