Pike/Predator Fly Fishing Tackle
Fly Fishing for Predators such as Pike is an increasingly popular sport, with anglers using fly rods at the heavier end of the rod range. There are many fly rods that are suitable for predator fly fishing, the most popular are often models originally designed for saltwater anglers that have a line rating of at least #9 although many brands now offer their own specialist predator range. As the artificial flies being used are often quite large compared to Trout or even Salmon flies we normally recommend a powerful fly rod of at least 9ft #9, tough large arbour fly reel with a strong drag system and lots of room for additional backing and a short shooting head style fly line that will propel these huge flies towards the horizon. This is by no means the only way to fly fish for predators but provides a newcomer with a basic idea of its requirements. We stock a range of fly rods, reels and lines that are perfect for predator fly fishing. Our staff have tried and tested the bulk of these ourselves and can offer advice on suitable set ups, techniques and tackle that will help you get the most from your pike or predator fly fishing.
