Shooting / Running Lines
Fly fishing running lines are used in conjunction with shooting head line systems. They are a level piece of line that is connected between the backing and the shooting head, normally a scandi or skagit line, using a loop to loop connection. The running line gives a thin section of line that easily shoots through the guides on the cast but is more manageable than the backing line.
Running lines are available in a fly line style, with a braided core and a PVC coating. These running lines are more manageable as they behave like a fly line and are available in different diameters to suit different line weights. Mono running lines are cheaper and are often thinner, meaning they can be cast greater distances, but aren’t as user friendly when stripping line in.
