Description / Troutline Squirrel Hybrid Dubbing
Troutline Squirrel Hybrid Dubbing is an all-round, best-selling dubbing blend designed to function across a wide range of fly profiles—from ultra-slim nymph bodies to highly textured thoraxes. Developed to look natural and alive in the water column, it is a versatile choice for tying medium-to-small nymphs, emergers, wet flies, and dry fly thorax bands.
The defining characteristic of this hybrid mix is its precise raw material composition, combining approximately 75% squirrel fur with roughly 25% Transylvanian hare mask. By blending coloured fibres with a dedicated portion of natural, undyed squirrel fur, the dubbing achieves a distinct "salt & pepper" contrast. This multi-tonal layout generates micro-shades and soft highlights that prevent the fly body from looking flat or synthetic, accurately mimicking the multi-tonal look of real aquatic insects under varying light conditions.
Material Performance underwater:
Translucency and Contrast: The squirrel fibres add a slightly silky, lively sheen that catches sunlight, while the hare mask adds a matte, coarse backdrop for physical depth.
Texture Without Bulk: The structural layout of the fur allows the material to pulse and move naturally in the water currents without requiring a thick thread base or bulky wraps, keeping small hooks sleek.
Easy Thread Adhesion: The blend twists onto tying thread quickly and cleanly. It can be wrapped into a tight, uniform noodle for slim bodies or spun into a loose dubbing loop to maximise protruding "legs" and spiky profiles.
