Description / Shimano Tranx Reel
The brand new Shimano Tranx Reel has been designed as a working machine for big fish! This is a heavy duty but low profile baitcasting reel.
Featuring 22lb of drag pressure on the 5.8:1 gear ratio reel, this is ideal for hard fighting specimens and has enough drag to tow a bus!
This reel is ideal for saltwater and freshwater applications. Shimano call this coreprotect, coreprotect is when they provide additional rubber seals in seams or joins within the construction of the reel that may be areas subject to water ingress. Anglers can use this reel for freshwater pike fishing with heavy lures such as jerkbaits, big crankbaits and spinnerbaits with weights over 100 grams.
This reel attains its power and robustness from Shimano's HEG technology, this is when they increase the size of the drive and pinion gears which provides the reels power and leverage, it is housed in a piece metal body frame which eliminates unwanted flexing in the drive train.
The 301 size is the ideal all round pike baitcasting reel it will suit anglers with smaller hands as well, especially anglers who like to palm grip the reel itself during use. The 401 model provides a larger line capacity and is more suited for throwing heavy soft plastic lures such as the giant pig shad and also trolling and targeting large saltwater species such as GT, Barracuda etc.
HG models are high gear ratio models, they are great for picking up line while jerkbait fishing, not recommended if using heavy resistance lures such as spinnerbaits, crankbaits etc.
The standard A model provides the perfect balance when it comes to gear ratio, 5.8:1 ratio which retrieves 30 inches per turn on of the handle, which provides the perfect amount of line retrieve for most lure applications.
