Made from the highest grade 6061 bar stock aluminum that provides a superior quality, sleek design and a very robust finish. The aluminum body construction by hardy also provides you with a great weight saving over its predecessors, offering you better balance and an incredibly lightweight feel.
This Hardy Cassette reel has inherited the spool locking system from its predecessor the CLS and comes from a long history of best quality cartridge reels. This quick release mechanism allows you to successfully secure and remove the polycarbonate reel cassette spool. This highly popular design has been reinstated within this range of reels due to its simplicity in design that is reliable and quicker to use than any other fly reel spool locking system. Simply rotate the switch mechanism to unlock the spool, which enables the line and spool to be easily removed. The easy to use line up markers allow you to precisely locate the correct spool position, then simply rotate the locking mechanism back to “lock'' which keeps the spool securely in place. This offers a huge benefit when changing spools with wet and/or cold hands.
A large arbor design allows for a much higher line pick up rate which is beneficial when playing fish on the reel and preventing slack line from occurring. A split second of slack line could result in the unfortunate event of the fish being able to throw the hook. This faster line pick up speed is also a big time saver when reeling in to move to another area, something that is even more crucial in a competitive environment. Wider arbor Hardy reels also help prevent line memory when storing your fly lines on the spools, keeping your lines nice and straight. The nature of a large arbor also eliminates the need to stretch your fly lines and greatly reduces line tangling due to the coils being too tight on the spool.
The Hardy Ultradisc Cassette reel benefits from a full disc drag system that will provide you with ample resistance when trying to stop long powerful runs and an adjustable drag knob that helps you increase your drag in fine increments to set your desired amount of resistance, required in that moment. With the feature of no drag pressure to the maximum drag setting in one full turn preventing you from having to continuously crank up the drag at a crucial moment when trying to land a hard fighting fish.
The cassette spools are made from a highly durable polycarbonate that is lightweight helping further reduce weight on the reel. Each spool features two line ID areas for marking the line density and rating that is loaded on the spool, making it easy to
identify the different lines stored on multiple spools.
The Hardy Ultradisc Cassette (UDC) fly reel comes in an attractive gunmetal silver finish and each model is supplied with two spare spools in a Hardy branded neoprene reel case. The UDC is available in a range of sizes that you can choose from in our drop down menu.
