Description / Simms Headwaters Large Sling Pack

As with all things Simms, this pack has been designed to near-on perfection. We love the feeling of having everything stored on our backs and out of the way whilst on the water. With conventional packs this can be awkward as it has to be taken off to retrieve what’s needed - The Simms Headwaters Large Sling Pack solves the problem. Simply unclip one strap and slide the pack around your torso, everything on your back is now available in front of you with all the pockets opening at the top so nothing falls out into the water below. Genius!

By no means were Simms the first to invent the sling pack, but they have developed this one to be the best available in our opinion. There is an incredible amount of storage space in the 2 large pockets and the little moulded work bench on the front that sits level when open provides you with further storage for tips, a fly box and velcro backed holders for gink & tippet. There is a little pocket on the waistband for a permit/map, a stash pocket in the back, and the addition of a net hoop and rod tube straps makes for a well-considered day pack for the adventurous angler.

The pack’s genius stems from the seamless ability to bring it from back to front to back again, when it’s time to switch up the program. Access the guts via two zippered compartments, with stretch mesh pockets and 915 cubic inches of gear swallowing capacity. Additional features include an exterior stash pocket, removable floatant and tippet-spool retainers, and a compression-molded front pocket that folds out for a customizable workspace that travels anywhere.

There are two attractive colour designs in the range and we stock both. The customer reviews below speak volumes for this pack and let us know that this pack is all it says it can be and more!

King of Sling

I've tried using sling packs in the past, when they were relatively new, and I didn't get on with them at all but when Simms brought out the new range I was prepared to give them another try and I'm glad I did. This pack is genuinely excellent. I can fit loads of fly boxes in the middle pouch along with leaders, tippet, and the handy little stick on spool and floatant holders it comes with. The moulded pouch in the front holds another fly box and has a few more leader compartments to help keep me organised. When I'm out sea trout fishing I put a thermos of coffee in the back compartment, if I'm out during the day it holds water and lunch as well as sun screen, insect repellent, torches, and all the other sundries. Then I can strap a rain jacket to the outside and I've got everything I need in one place without having to stuff my vest full to bursting or carry separate bags. If there's a downside I'd say that the D-ring for the net makes it fiddly to put back when using a magnetic clip - though no more or less so than when clipped to the back of a vest, and the connection points for all the retractors more than make up for that. I can clip some scissor pliers in the front for quick work, a pair of dedicated forceps and a pair of snips on the back, and a spare pair of snips inside the moulded compartment at the top. The little hidden pocket holds my camera and mini-tripod, wallet, keys and all that other stuff. My licence goes in the small pocket on the waist strap. The straps themselves are easy to undo and do back up with one hand which is very useful. Basically it allows me to keep all my fishing gear organised so that when I get the right conditions I can just grab the bag and go fishing without having to worry about leaving anything behind.

I've tried a number of sling packs and haven't found one that covers all bases until I tried the Large Sling Pack from Simms.
