OPST Pure Skagit Commando Sink Tips

The OPST Pure Skagit Commando Sink Tips are available in three different sink rates, named Riffle, Run and Bucket to cover shallow, medium and deeper waters at different speeds of current and are an essential component to complete the Pure Skagit system.

With these sink tips, you are given the choice to fish for any species in rivers or still waters. Not only that but in a range of river conditions. Not all skagit scenarios require a fast and heavy sink tip, shallower runs are important too especially in higher levels of water.

There are three lengths of tips to choose from. 5ft, 7.5ft and 12ft. The best choice is personal preference but please see the manufacturers charts below to help you choose.

5ft Tips
The 5ft Commando Sink Tips are micro tips optimised for use on 6ft to 10ft fly rods. These shorter 5ft lengths will help you fish shallower whilst also making turnover easier. The 5ft tips are available in 3 different sink rates: S2, S4 and S6. The S2 is marked as Riffle, the S4 is marked as Run and the S6 is marked as Bucket.

7.5ft Tips
The 7.5ft Commando Sink Tips are suited for use on 7ft to 11ft rods. They are designed for 4 to 8 weight rods and are the ideal choice for a standard 9ft single hand rod. The 7.5ft tips are available in 3 different sink rates: S2, S4 and S6. The S2 is marked as Riffle, the S4 is marked as Run and the S6 is marked as Bucket.

12ft Tips
The 12ft includes the following sink tips: Riffle is rated a Sink 2/3, the back half of the line is a Type 2 (2 inches per second), and the front half is a Type 3 (3 inches per second). Run is available in a Sink 3/4 rating and a 5/6 Sink rating. The Sink 3/4 has a back half with a Type 3 (3 inches per second) and the front half is a Type 4 (4 inches per second). The 5/6 Sink rate has a back half with a Type 5 (5 inches per second), and the front half with a Type 6 (6 inches per second).

Bucket has the fastest available sink rate with a Sink 5/6 rating or a Sink 8/9 rating. This has a back half with a Type 8 (8 inches per second) and the front half is a Type 9 (9 inches per second).

Designing the tips like this produces a straighter sink to the fly and reduces the belly effect that occurs in level sink tips. We have these sink tips in a 12ft length and they all have strong welded loops at both ends for easy rigging.

Easy Identification

The rear ends feature colour-coded line ID’s to identify both grain weight and sink rate.
