Buying list of sea fishing terminal tackle

Here is an overview of sea terminal tackle products, including hooks, weights/leads, swivels, clips, floats, pirks, rig building components, bait elastic, sea fishing line and shockleader for sea fishing.

Saltwater Hooks

Are a vital component of any sea fishing setup. Saltwater hooks are typically made of stainless steel or high-carbon steel and they must be corrosion-resistant to withstand the harsh marine environment. There's a wide range of hook types, sizes and profile shapes available to suit different species and bait types. Circle hooks, J-hooks, worm hooks and treble hooks are some of the common types used in sea fishing.

Weights or leads

Are used to add weight to your rig, allowing your bait to sink in the water and helping you cast further. The shape and size of the weight will depend on the fishing technique and conditions. For example, pyramid and teardrop sinkers are popular for beach and shore fishing, while heavier torpedo weights may be used for deep-sea fishing.

Swivels and clips

Are small but important pieces of terminal tackle. Swivels are used to prevent line twist, which can be a common issue when reeling in a spinning lure, rig or even a fish. Clips are used to quickly and easily change lures, weights or other parts of your rig. Both should be sturdy and corrosion-resistant.

Floats for sea fishing

Also known as bobbers, are used in sea fishing to suspend your bait at a certain depth and to provide a visual indication of bites. Saltwater floats are typically larger and more robust than their freshwater counterparts, and they come in a variety of styles and sizes to suit different conditions and species.

Pirks

Are a type of metal jig used in sea fishing, particularly for species that inhabit the sea floor like cod and halibut. They are designed to be dropped down to the seabed and then jerked up and down, mimicking the movement of a wounded baitfish. Typical weights of pirks are between 100 to 500 grams.

Rig building components

Include a variety of items like beads, crimps, tubes and booms that are used to construct and customise your own fishing rigs. Building your own rigs can be a rewarding aspect of sea fishing, allowing you to tailor your setup to the specific conditions and target species.

Bait elastic

Is used to secure soft or delicate bait to your hook, ensuring it doesn't come off during casting or when fish are biting. It's especially useful when using natural baits like squid, worms or fish pieces.

Sea fishing line

Needs to be strong, durable and resistant to abrasion, given the size of the fish and the rough conditions often encountered. Monofilament and braided lines are the most commonly used. A shockleader is a length of heavier line attached to your main fishing line, designed to absorb the shock of casting and prevent the line from breaking. It's especially important when casting heavy weights - as a guide to what breaking strain of shockleader to use - use 10lb of leader for every ounce of lead. 5oz lead = 50lb shock leader!
