Saltwater Lure Fishing Gear

Lure rods

are designed specifically for fishing with artificial lures. These rods are typically lightweight, with a sensitive tip to detect bites, and a stronger butt section to aid in casting lures and fighting fish. They range in length, with shorter rods for precision casting in close quarters, and longer rods for distance casting from the shore or a boat.

LRF rods

Or Light Rock Fishing rods, are an exciting subset of lure rods. These rods are specifically designed for catching smaller species found around rocky shores, piers, and estuaries. LRF rods are usually very light and sensitive, with a length of 6 to 8 feet, and they are designed to use with small, light lures.

Bass rods

These specialist rods are a must for anglers targeting this popular species. Bass are known for their aggressive strikes and fighting spirit and a good bass rod must be capable of handling this. These rods are generally 6 to 9 feet long, offering a good balance of casting distance and control. They should be sensitive to detect bites, but have enough backbone to fight and land a big bass.

Saltwater Lure Rods

Saltwater lure rods are purpose-built for fishing with artificial lures. These rods are designed to be lightweight, with a sensitive tip for detecting bites and a robust butt section for casting lures and battling fish. You'll find a range of lengths available, from shorter rods for precision casting in tight spaces to longer ones for reaching fish from the shore or a boat. Rods of 8 to 10 feet with and a casting weight between 10 and 60 grams are ideal for lure fishing for species such as pollock or mackerel

Saltwater lure reels

Designed specifically for casting and retrieving lures in a saltwater environment. They are generally robust and corrosion-resistant to withstand the harsh saltwater conditions. They feature smooth drag systems to effectively control hard-fighting fish and high gear ratios for quick lure retrieval. Saltwater lure reels can be either spinning or baitcasting designs, each with their own advantages.

Sea lure fishing line

Another key component! Both braided and monofilament lines are commonly used. Braided lines are popular for their high strength-to-diameter ratio, sensitivity and lack of stretch, which helps with hook sets. Monofilament lines are valued for their abrasion resistance and stretch, which can be beneficial when fighting fish. The line should be strong enough to handle the fish you're targeting and smooth for long, accurate casts.

Lure terminal tackle

Refers to the items attached to the end of the fishing line. In addition to lures, terminal tackle also includes hooks, swivels, clips and leaders, all of which must be strong and corrosion-resistant for saltwater use.
