SANA - Scottish Anglers National Association - Fly Fishing Competition
About the competition The SANA Youth National is a fly fishing competition open to all anglers under the age of 18 at the time of the event – generally August each year. The National is a boat based competition, fished to international rules, held over two days on consecutive week-ends and is currently fished at Carron Reservoir and Lake of Menteith – competitors must fish both dates and the catches of both outings count towards the “heaviest” and winning bag(s).
About the national The National is also a twofold competition in that the angler with the heaviest bag will be crowned Youth National Champion but the sixteen heaviest, eligible bags will be invited to make up the squad from which fourteen will then be selected to form Team Scotland to compete against England, Wales and Ireland in July the following year – The 2010 International will be fished on Scotland’s home water the Lake of Menteith. While all young anglers are eligible to compete for the title of National Champion they will have to be under 18 at the time of the international competition and have either Scottish birthright or Scottish parentage to be able to earn a Scottish International Cap. Once selected for the Scotland Squad, members will be assessed, guided and coached over a series of outings and training week-ends by a committee of experienced, qualified coaches. Boat outings are generally two young anglers to a boat with one experienced coach/boatman.
How much does it cost?
To take part in the competition there is a charge of £25.00 per venue, with fishing at two initial venues planned. So £50.00 will cover your entry. If there are more than 50 applicants there will be a qualifier heat to narrow down the competitors, entry into this will be the same at £25.00.
As mentioned below, you need to be a member of SANA to participate, but entry to SANA costs only £5.00 for the year for a junior membership and you can join and apply for the competition at the same time.
How to get involved
Simply download the application form from the links below, fill it in and post it to the following address. If you are not a member of SANA you must also join the association to take part in the competition but the charge for this is minimal, and well worth while.
