These are Cul De Canard feathers from Hareline that come in a wide range of available colours. The CDC feathers are used purely for Trout dry fly tying because the natural oils in the feathers from the duck's gland create highly desirable flotation properties.
Due to the feathers softness and oils that help repel water, these feathers create life-like movement in the water and are commonly used on F flies and Nymphs for wings.
These feathers are also known for their air-catching properties so would mainly be used for wings on Trout Dry flies that are constructed into a bubble shape. This helps trap more air for extra floatation.
These colourful CDC feathers are also ideal for Shuttlecock flies due to their high buoyancy.
Common flies found with CDC feathers include the F Wing Claret, Amber CDC T/B Nymph and Pink CDC Jig T/B Barbless.
The Hareline Cul De Canard feathers are delicate and soft and are available in 20 different colours: Black, Light Pink, Light Yellow, Natural Dun, Natural White, Olive, Orange, Pale Morn Dun, Blue Winged Olive, Rusty Spinner, Slate Gray, Sulpher Orange, Tan, Woodduck Gold, Yellow, Brown, Callibaetis, Chartreuse, Cinnamon and Dark Dun.
