The Hareline CDC Oiler Puff feathers are much smaller and finer than the standard CDC feathers. These delicate, tiny and ultra lightweight feathers are perfect for small fly tying Midge patterns and dry Trout flies.
Like the standard CDC feathers, the oiler puff feathers are also from the preen gland on a duck which makes them brilliantly buoyant due to the natural oils produced from the gland.
Mostly used for Trout Dry flies and Midge flies, the feathers are ideal for wing patterns as there is no central quill on oiler puff feathers. This means that any wings tied with these feathers are more natural in their movement.
Due to their air-catching properties, to help trap more air for extra floatation, some Trout dry flies can have wings tied into a bubble shape.
Common flies tied with CDC Oiler Puff feathers are the Blue Winged Olive CDC, Black Cripple Midge and CDC Hopper Black.
These oiler puff feathers are available in a wide range of colours including: Black, Ginger, Gray Olive, Light Dun, Medium Dun, Natural Dun, Olive, Pale Morn Dun, Pale Olive, Blue Winged Olive, Rusty Spinner, Slate Gray, Sulpher Orange, Tan, Trico, White, Woodduck Gold, Brown and Chartreuse.
