Veniard Golden Pheasant Topping Crest

The Golden Pheasant Topping Crest is the top of the Golden Pheasant's head where the crest feathers are found. These vivid yellow feathers are mainly used in Salmon fly tying but can be seen in other kinds of fly tying as well. The topping crest is available in Grade 1 or Grade 2 quality.

The crest feathers are commonly used for classic Salmon flies. Sometimes used for the tail material, it is more often used as a topping that sits gently over the wing. As well as Salmon flies, the topping crest is often found in trout patterns. One of the most popular being the classic Kate McLaren.

The Topping Crest Grade 1 feathers have high quality barbs and are suitable for tying smaller size flies due to their smaller sized barbs. The Grade 1 topping crest is approximately 5cm in Length x 1.5cm in Width and has a wide range of crest feathers.

The Topping Crest Grade 2 is good as a low cost option and is much alike in quality to Grade 1. The Grade 2 topping crest is approximately 4.5cm in Length x 1cm in Width. The colours of the crest feathers may differ ever so slightly and the feathers are a little shorter in length. For a low cost alternative, this is great value for money as it contains a large number of usable crest feathers.

As a small bonus, you might find that some of the Golden Pheasant Topping Crest's may feature a few tippet feathers.
