Description / Airflo Gel Spun Backing
The Airflo Gel Spun Backing is the ultimate backing for your reel as it's low diameter allows you to increase your backing capacity by more than 50% when compared with regular Dacron backing. This backing is suitable for fly fishing in both freshwater and saltwater environments.
This gel spun backing is made of polyethylene gel and has a smaller diameter which allows the increase of backing capacity. This means you can put practically double the amount of backing on the reel and increase the strength of your backing.
Due to the thinner diameter of gel spun backing, you will be able to maintain a faster recovery rate and the line will create less drag in the water. Gel spun is also slick, strong and incredibly durable for a high abrasion resistance and will maintain it's strength, even when wet.
Using gel spun as your backing also offers you excellent visibility and the material is highly resistant to UV rays, gas, salt and other elements. Due to the gel spun material having zero stretch, we highly recommend you tie this to your line very securely and with a loop to loop connection.

5 Gelspun is the answer

At last! I can now get a full 300 yards of backing plus the running line and head on my salmon fly reel. My wife and I are planning our fishing trip to Norway and looking for big fish. I am impressed by the low diameter of the 50 lb Airflo Gelspun. The bright yellow colour will improve visibility in low light.

I'm not going to wait to fish this backing as I don't expect to reach it on my new 4WT kit so I'll only rate on providing base backing.
The backing is super fine, don't expect it to be enough for larger reels if you only order 100m.
For me the 100m was the perfect amount with an Airflo SuperDri Elite #4 DT to perfectly fill a nice small Orvis Access Mid Arbour II model. It's firm packing, the small diameter makes it nice and level if you take your time and should be a sound backing for this line.
I cut off the loops on my line, nail knot variant at the reel end with a brush of superglue and a Moser loop at the leader end.
Can't wait to fish this and the new DT line soon :)

Increase my backing capacity by 50% just as it says on the tin! Felt I needed that extra more backing just in case in havemy red letter day :) feels better in the hand and very strong.
