Finally, a rig roll that does the job!, Review by Blackwatch
We've all been there - fiddling furiously with tangled trebles and twisted traces...
Given that there's six sharp points on any pike trace, it's hardly surprsing they're difficult items to store separately and safely without taking up precious bag space.
Finally, we have a workable solution, well worth eight quid of any angler's money.
The Savage Gear Pro Logic Rig Roll is compact, light and very well designed.
The concept is simple enough: just a foam-covered cylinder on which to pin the points of your trebles. But its the details that really do the job.
Close inspection reveals that the foam cylinder is made up from numerous separate rings, all crammed closely together. That provides tight crevices allowing the swivel-end of the trace to be held securely. Small threads protruding from these gaps indicate where these gaps are located - handy when you're packing up in low-light conditions.
In short, it does the job very well, and there's a few bonus features thrown in for good measure.
Each end of the cylinder is stopped with a moulded foam plug, each of which has three handy grooves designed to hold small monofilament traces.
These stoppers also provide access to the inside of the plastic cylinder - an ideal space for small items like crimps, clippers or small sinkers.
A sturdy, well ventilated case completes the picture. Mine wasn't as pictured on this page, though. Rather than opening at one end as shown, mine had a zip running along the length of the case.
Having tried various 'solutions' such as plastic rig bins and wallets, I reckon I've finally hooked the right tool for the job.
What took you so long, Savage Gear?! (Posted on 24/01/2011)
