September proved to be another top of the water month, we have had fish taken off the top every single day, sometimes in pretty horrific conditions, best dries for the month proved to be daddies, hoppers in black, claret and harelug and cdc’s in black, olive, harelug and brown. The buzzer sport has also improved greatly with the black buzzer still leading as the top colour, best other colours have been, olive, brown, orange and also the okey dokey, buzzers have been more consistent fished under an indicator sometimes really high in the water, another top method throughout the month has been a buzzer on a dropper and a dry on the point, this has kept the buzzers high where the fish have been, even on the coldest windiest days, the fish have been in the top couple of feet, lure fishing was very poor at the beginning of the month but has started to improve now the water is cooling down, best lure by far has been the hothead damsel, followed by the yellow dancer, rabbits have also been deadly at times.

Another week of wild and mild saw the main focus of fishing activity around Sam’s or Reedy Point, Shear Point and Lochend. Dry fly continues to be reported as top method – over the weekend. Well done to the Scots fishing at the International at Grafam Reservoir in England. They got silver but were a good way (29 fish) behind winners England (congratulations to them). As the Scottish Internatonal Secretary Tom Mactaggart says “ 3 golds and two silvers out of the last 5 matches is a good run”. The main tactics in use were apparently tweaking buzzers etc on the hang and the English were able to find other holding areas once the main hot spot at the dam wall switched off.
